Make your dad’s smile sparkle this Father’s Day

June 15th, 2011

What are the various roles that your father takes on in your life? At various stages while you were growing up he may have filled any or all of the following positions: taxi driver, bank, handyman, counsellor, bodyguard, teacher and even comedian. There may be countless ways to thank him, but have you ever thought about giving him the gift of a smile on Father’s Day?

Can you think of all the times you have made your father smile? Perhaps when you first learnt to ride a bicycle, or when you passed your driver’s license? Most people find it very difficult to buy gifts for fathers, other than the traditional fare available in stores at this time of year.

If you’re looking for a fabulous Father’s Day gift this year, treat him to a brighter, whiter smile – a truly unique Father’s Day Gift from Sparkle. Available at £249 for a one-hour Zoom Power Whitening treatment, you can give your dad something different that he will really appreciate.

Please call us today to take advantage of this offer. 020 8567 4344

Sparkle’s Weekly Smile Showcase – 10th June 2011

June 10th, 2011

The team at Sparkle would like to present to you some of our recent cases where we have given our patients brighter, straighter and healthier smiles. Nothing makes us happier than to see our patients flashing their new smiles and walk taller with their new-found confidence. Below are a few of our latest success stories:

This week’s Sparkling Smiles

Case1

A patient from Chicago, who originally had some dubious dentistry in India had porcelain veneers placed on his upper teeth. The result was a less gummy smile with beautiful aesthetics.

Case 2

A 9 year patient was punched in the face breaking both his nose and his upper front tooth. Using composite bonding, Sunita managed to replicate the tooth…so its as good as new!

Case 3

Its not uncommon for children to fall and break a front tooth. A thirteen year old girl did just that. Thirty minutes later the tooth was back to normal using composite bonding.

Case 4

The results of smoking can play havoc with your teeth and gums. This patient had heavily stained and discoloured teeth. Sessions with our hygienist followed by cosmetic dentistry using teeth whitening and porcelain veneers.

The Story of Naipoki

May 2nd, 2011

Profile

Name: Naipoki

Gender: Female

Date of Birth: Mon 4th Oct 2010

Location Found: Namunyak Conservancy- North Kenya

Age on Arrival: Approx 3 months old

Reason for being Orphaned: She was rescued having fallen down a well twice

The story of Naipoki

Naipoki is an orphaned African elephant in Kenya that the team at Sparkle Dental Boutique has adopted. Sparkle owner, Dr Sunita Verma and her sister and business manager Kavita, love elephants and have visited elephants in the wild in Thailand, Kenya, South Africa and more recently, in Sri Lanka. Their hearts went out to little Naipoki, when they read her story.

Naipoki is a headstrong little elephant who has escaped twice from her herd, only to be found trapped inside a well. She now no longer wanders off but can be found happily walking around the Nairobi Nursery.

“Our love of elephants has driven us to foster a four month old baby elephant Naipoki, who was orphaned when just 3 months old, and rescued from a well. Naipoki means “something painted” in the Maa language. Naipoki is unique in that she oozes intelligence and charm, and is adored by all the other baby elephants and the keepers.” ~Sparkle

We adopted Naipoki from The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and more information is available at Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. http://www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/asp/fostering.asp

Keep up to date with Naipoki’s escapades through her keeper’s diary: http://www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/asp/individual.asp?o=NAIPOKI

The latest entry involves Naipoki chasing warthogs with some of the other orphaned elephants.

Because Naipoki is so adventurous, she has wandered off into all the Sparkle Dental Boutique social media channels and you should keep an eye out for her.

Mastermind – Are You Ready for the Hot Seat

March 17th, 2011

Dr Sunita Verma, Sparkle Dental Boutique has been asked to become an examiner for the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD) accreditation process. This follows on from Sunita being the first and only woman in England to achieve accreditation.

The BACD is committed to promoting the practice of quality cosmetic dentistry, and has recently introduced credentials to allow its members to demonstrate that they have reached an agreed level of ability.

Candidates seeking accreditation will have to brave the `black chair’ as they answer questions on their specialist subject, their own previously submitted dental cases to be awarded the coveted accreditation.

Sunita from close to Ealing says “Sitting in the `black chair’ was a little daunting, as it had taken me a few years to submit and pass the 5 clinical cases that we had to anonymously submit. When these had all been passed there was a Viva examination where I answered questions from examiners about treatment methods chosen and materials that I had used.”

Sunita goes on to say “Examiners are usually drawn from BACD accredited members and so it is a great honour to have been asked to be an examiner. Although the programme Mastermind is well known for its challenging questions, intimidating setting and air of seriousness, I look forward to meeting with candidates whilst they are in the hot seat.”

Go Green to Beat Cancer

October 18th, 2010

Scientists studying half a million retirees in the USA report that each extra serving of fruit and vegetables per 1,000 calories was linked to a 6% reduction in the risk of head and neck cancers, including mouth cancers.

Switching to a healthy eating lifestyle could make a huge difference to those not in the habit. A third of oral cancers are linked to poor diet. The study found that people going one beyond the recommended five a day, to six portions, were 30% less likely to develop the cancers than those just eating just one and a half servings of fruit and vegetables.

Dr Sunita Verma, Principal from Sparkle Dental Boutique in Hounslow says “We can take steps to prevent oral cancers, a disease which kills one person every five hours in the UK. Steps can be as simple as improving diet or quitting tobacco which is linked to 80% of oral cancers”

Sunita goes on to say “Also vital are self examinations for warning signs. Warning signs include ulcers which do not heal within three weeks, red, white and unusual patches in the mouth and unusual swellings or changes in the mouth and neck. Visiting the practice regularly for oral cancer screenings is also key as early detection of oral cancer improves survival chances to 9 in 10 cases”.
