Quality Dental Implants Available from Dentists serving Kew

February 27th, 2012

It seems that there is a new health scare story every week in the media, most of which are then disproved the next week. However, the recent concerns about the French-manufactured breast implants, which now have to be removed from past patients, has made many people understandably frightened of any medical treatment that includes the word “implant.”

Dental implants from dentists serving patients in Kew, however, have always been and remain completely safe. For one thing having the implant fitted into the jawbone is not an invasive procedure, such as that needed for cosmetic enhancement surgery. The procedure can be carried out under local anaesthetic and you will be back at home after just an hour or so in the dentist’s chair. The implants themselves only need tiny holes to sit in and even if you have to undergo a bone graft to strengthen your jawbone ahead of having them fitted, the material used will in most cases come from yourself, so there is no risk of cross infection or rejection.

The implants are usually made of a strong yet durable metal called titanium. Before it was used in humans as a dental implant, titanium underwent many years of testing to check that it does not cause any unexpected health problems or irritations. The findings found that no problems arose from titanium implants and in fact the first patients to have these implants fitted have now had them for several years, still with no reported problems. The implants used at Sparkle Dental Boutique are of the highest quality, made with pure titanium, containing no other alloys or metals.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns about the safety of dental implants or whether they are the right treatment option for you, your dentist can help. However, there is no evidence to suggest that dental implants will end up in the news headlines in the way breast implants have in recent weeks.

Have you got the wrong idea about dental implants at your Chiswick dentist?

November 10th, 2011

Losing a tooth can affect many different functions, such as chewing, the way you speak, keeping your facial muscles in place and stopping your other teeth from moving into different positions.  Losing a tooth can also affect your general self-esteem – but you could consider dental implants to restore the confidence you feel in the way your teeth look.

If you have one or more missing teeth, dental implants at your Chiswick dentist are an option that will work really well.  They actually look, feel and work in the same way as natural teeth, making them the next best thing should you need to replace any missing teeth.  Lots of patients are often put off by dental implants, believing that it is a treatment for older people.  This is not the case, as patients of all ages (within reason) can have the treatment if they have lost a tooth.

What is involved in the process of having the dental implant procedure?

There are three parts that go into creating a dental implant; these are the dental implant, the Abutment and the Crown.  After an initial assessment of your mouth, your dentist will insert a small titanium post into your jaw to act as the root of the tooth – this is the dental implant.  There is then a waiting period in which the bone is given time to grow around the implant, which usually takes around two to six months.  After this your dentist will attach the new crown to the dental implant by using an abutment, which keeps the new ‘tooth’ secure and in place.  Your new dental implant, if cared for properly and cleaned regularly, can actually last a lifetime.

The treatment itself is extremely successful and, although fairly long, it is well worth it.  It is also relatively pain-free when under anaesthetic, so there is no need to worry about the pain of the treatment.

Hanwell dentists help you know what foods are good for your teeth

September 27th, 2011

Diet plays a very important role in oral health and most people in Hanwell are aware of the foods and drinks that are bad for their teeth. If good health is not maintained this can lead to a need for advanced treatment such as dental implants. However, there are many foods and drinks that are beneficial for the teeth and should be consumed to enhance dental health.

Calcium-rich foods

Calcium is essential for strong, healthy teeth and eating foods and sipping drinks that are high in calcium will help to maintain the strength of the teeth and bones. Examples of calcium-rich foods include yoghurt, cheese and milk. Sugar-free milk products are good for the teeth, not only because they contain calcium, but also because they have low acidity levels and do not cause the damage of acidic foods, which weaken tooth enamel. Cheese is also beneficial because it helps to neutralise the acid in the mouth, which reduces the risk of decay. Calcium is particularly important for children, as it helps their bones to grow and develop. Children should drink whole milk and snack on sugar-free yoghurts and cheese to boost their calcium intake.

Fruit and vegetables

Vegetables such as broccoli, pumpkin, leafy green vegetables and carrots are high in vitamin A, which is essential for healthy teeth, skin and hair. Vitamin A is extremely important for the production of tooth enamel, which provides protection for the dentin portion of the tooth. Chewing on raw vegetables, such as carrots and celery, also helps to stimulate the gums and cleanse the mouth, because chewing produces saliva. Vitamin C, which can be found in many different fruits, is also essential for healthy gum tissue. Examples of fruits that are rich in vitamin C include strawberries, lemons, oranges and kiwis.

Water

Drinking water is beneficial for your general health but it is also very important for oral health, as water helps to keep the gums moist and rinses away food particles, which can start to decompose in the mouth and contribute to unpleasant smelling breath.

What if you don’t eat the right diet?

If you a maintain what is considered a poor level of diet this can have repercussions on your dental health. Issues like missing teeth and abscesses can arise and these can then lead to the need for treatment such as dental implants or dentures. Prevention and good diet is the best route to success.

Hanwell dentists look at stem cell banks and the effect they are having

September 20th, 2011

Stemade Biotech, a company of dental stem cell banking, has become the first private company to open a dental stem cell bank in India.

New advances in stem cell research are being introduced almost daily, just as new ground is being made with treatments like dental implants in dentistry, and using these advances Stemade are able to extract stem cells from primary and wisdom teeth. These cells can then be banked and used to preserve and protect your and your family’s smiles in a special cryogenic storage facility.

Stem cells hold the genetic build up of the person they were taken from and, as such, can be used in medical therapy. The cells can be taken from a number of sources, including umbilical cords, muscle tissue and bone marrow, as well as milk teeth, which is the main focus of this new cell bank from Stemade. They have created a bank of dental stem cells to cover you and your family from any potential future incidents and critical health concerns.

Among some of the diseases that scientists hope stem cell research can help with are cancer, type 1 diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, MI, MS, osteoarthritis, spinal injuries and wound healing, as well as many others.

While Stemade have their headquarters in Mumbai, the company have developed into a number of international cities including Delhi, Hyberbad, Bangalore, Chennai and Pune.

Despite the ongoing social and scientific debates concerning the use of stem cells, the dental cell bank has proved exceptionally popular, especially among parents, due to a mixture of a desire to protect their child’s health, low costs and ease of extraction.

Stemade hope to use the groundbreaking technology to arm future generations against critical health risks, creating a future they can enter confidently.

Sparkle Dental Boutique, Hanwell will do its utmost to stay on top of the latest dental related research. In the meantime we think treatment options like dental implants, dentures, dental crowns and dental bridges are most apt for addressing any dental concerns you might have at present. Winning the war on oral bacteria, thanks to your Acton dentist

September 13th, 2011

Most of us never stop to think about what’s going on inside our mouths, and as a consequence procedures like dental implants can become necessary. As long as the drilling is kept to a minimum at the dentist we’re happy to be kept in the dark about how our teeth work and the potential dangers of practising poor oral hygiene.  Yet the risks are too high to remain ignorant about what could be lurking within a seemingly healthy mouth. At Sparkle Dental Boutique we want to make sure your teeth and gums are at a gold standard.

Be aware

Your teeth may look and feel in great shape but in reality there are some crucial steps to follow in order to keep nasty forms of oral bacteria strictly at bay.  It’s a simple rule:  reducing these levels of bacteria present in your mouth reduces the harm they can do to your teeth over time.  Unfortunately, if oral bacteria is running riot in your mouth, more trips to the dentist will become unavoidable and you may go on to require advanced treatment such as dental implants.  Oral bacteria is directly responsible for the build up of plaque, for tooth decay and gum disease – the causes of the dreaded drill and ongoing dental surgery.

The risks

But it doesn’t have to be like that.  If you asked your local Acton dentist today about the risks of oral bacteria, he or she would tell you that there are many preventative measures you can take to protect your mouth against those harmful forms.  So it isn’t all as bad as it sounds.  With regular check ups at the dentist and a good oral hygiene routine, you will be well on your way to stamping out destructive types of bacteria and protecting your teeth from decay.  It’s not about eradicating all the forms of bacteria living in your mouth.  Some bacteria are actually crucial to our wellbeing.

Did you know that there are ‘good’ bacteria that help to ward off the unfriendly kind?  Taking care of your mouth will help to strike the right balance of bacteria and prevent painful cavities from forming and prevent the need for treatment like dental implants.  So next time you feel like skipping your check up, remember prevention is the key to maintaining a beautiful smile.

Have you been told you need bone grafting?

June 23rd, 2011

Bone grafting is a procedure which is used to increase bone tissue in one area by taking tissue from another area in the body or using animal tissue or synthetic materials to boost bone density. In dentistry, bone grafting is commonly used to support dental implants. There are different methods of bone grafting which can be used if the bone tissue is not dense enough to support an implant.

What does the bone grafting procedure involve?

There are different bone grafting methods; the four main methods include autografting, allografts, alloplastic grafts and xenografts.

Autografts involve bone tissue being taken from the human body. Bone is grafted from one area of the body to increase the density of the tissue in another area of the body. Commonly, with dental implants, bone is grafted from the hip or a different area of the mouth. Autografting is the most commonly used type of bone grafting, as the grafted bone is compatible with the new site.

Allografts use human bone but the bone tissue is taken from a donor; people can specify if they would like to donate their organs or tissue in the event that they die. Te body starts to convert the donor bone tissue into natural bone, which helps to boost the jaw bone tissue. Alloplastic grafts use synthetic material, which mimics the role of natural bone tissue. Xenografts use bone tissue from animals; the animal bone undergoes a special process to make it compatible with human tissue; over the course of time, the body replaces the animal tissue with natural human bone tissue.

Why is bone grafting needed?

In some cases, when an individual wants to have dental implants, they may have to undergo bone grafting to increase the amount of bone tissue in their jaw. In order for the implant to be successful, there must be enough bone tissue to support it. If this is not the case, your dentist may advise you to have a bone graft to boost the jawbone and enable it to support the new implant.

Sparkle Dental Boutique are here to add a little ‘sparkle’ to your smile

Dental implants have become the most popular means of replacing missing and damaged teeth and hundreds of people from all around the UK, from Warrington to Kew are opting for the treatment. In most cases, people have sufficient bone tissue to support an implant; however, in some cases, there is not enough bone tissue and a bone grafting procedure will be carried out to build up the jawbone or fill in areas where bone is brittle.

Dental Implants: A Lifetime Cure for your Gappy Smile

May 10th, 2011

It is something most of us will dread but something that many of us face – losing teeth. When you’re five and you know you’re going to get a visit from the Kew district tooth fairy it’s a bearable thought but when you’re a little too big for the tooth fairy there seems to be absolutely no consolation for losing a tooth.

Missing teeth means a gap there shouldn’t be and these gaps often cause problems for you when eating, speaking and not to mention the erosion of the bone where the tooth once sat. Dentures, crowns and bridges are the traditional solutions to your gappy mouth and whilst these often help the eating and speaking problems they cannot even begin to solve the wasting away of your jaw where there was once a pearly white tooth.

For those who are looking for a better solution and want to preserve their killer cheekbones there is a less traditional method – dental implants. A dental implant is placed inside your jaw which acts as the root portion of your tooth. This implant integrates with the surrounding bone and tissue and your mouth will never know anything went missing. Your crown, bridge or denture is then fitted to the implant and the finished product is a more secure, more natural looking false tooth or teeth.

The Simple Solution

Fitting a dental implant is a rather technical procedure and the treatment process will take weeks, sometimes months but once completed the result is guaranteed to last a lifetime and with a look so natural that nobody will ever know your secret it really will be worthwhile.

Dental implants have a whole host of advantages over the more traditional solutions; aesthetically, functionally and hygienically implants are the best solution available for missing teeth. For most people looking good is at the very top of the requirements list and the dental implant is by far the best way to tick that box.

Second on the list will most likely be avoiding the horror of the denture clattering your Nan does whilst you’re at dinner with your friends. Speaking and eating can be problematic with dentures because dentures can be prone to moving about in your mouth. With dental implants, your false teeth will be as secure as the bona fide ones and there is no possibility of this embarrassment.

Another advantage of the dental implant is that you do not have to adapt your daily oral hygiene routine in any way. Dentures and bridges can complicate matters but with a dental implant all you have to do is maintain a good oral hygiene routine of brushing, flossing and regular check-ups at the dentist.

A dental implant really is shoulders above the alternative options when it comes to replacing your missing teeth. The added complexity of the treatment procedure means a treatment that will last a lifetime and the same cannot be said for dentures, crowns and bridges.

As the saying goes there is simply no gain without the pain and it couldn’t be truer in the case of dental implants.
