Thanksgiving Day – Give thanks for a smile achieved by Brentford dentists

November 24th, 2011

When you think of Thanksgiving Day you would be forgiven for immediately thinking of American families gathered around a table, eating turkey and watching an American football game. But not many people know it is celebrated in other countries as well. Canada, Liberia and parts of New Zealand and the Netherlands celebrate this occasion too (although Canada, Liberia and the Norfolk Island in New Zealand celebrate it on different days). A tradition of the period is to ‘give thanks’ for what you have, so what are you thankful for? Well, one thing could be your smile thanks to your Brentford dentist!

We can be thankful that we live in a time where cosmetic dentistry has progressed to a stage where nothing is impossible. It can be overwhelming to think of the amount of pressure that is thrust upon us to look a certain way, but now we can feel more in control and better about our appearance due to the wealth of options and possibilities available to us. Now we can rejuvenate our smile with confidence due to advancements in implants, veneers, teeth whitening, teeth correction, gum correction and much more.

Today, ‘train track’ metal braces are a thing of the past now that clear aligners and tooth coloured braces have become the primary source of treatment for misaligned teeth. The advancements in teeth correction methods are not just cosmetic and treatment is now a great deal shorter than previous orthodontic methods.

The progression of dental implants has dramatically changed peoples’ lives. At one time it would have taken months to receive a set of implants with restoration, but now it is possible restore a complete smile in just one day thanks to the All-on-4 implant method. Even those who were told they did not qualify for implants due to weak jawbones and gums can now be treated.

Teeth whitening has also greatly advanced and we are now at the age of laser teeth whitening, which requires no bleach and can last for over a year.

So, one thing to be thankful for is that we live in a time that we can have the smile that we desire.

The Apprentice … and Cosmetic Dentistry?

July 14th, 2011

The return of the hit TV show The Apprentice also means the return of 16 new lambs to the slaughter for Lord Alan Sugar, and here at Sparkle Dental close to Brentford we think an apprentice can greatly improve their chances of landing that dream job if they had a beautiful and confident smile.

In the ruthless business they are venturing into any and all advantages need to be taken, and having a perfect smile could really set a lasting impression that would give an apprentice a better shot than their competitors.

As they work out the intricate workings of business by marketing products to the French market, publishing a free magazine and branding a new type of biscuit, amongst other things, cosmetic dentistry could really help them on the path they’ve started, whether it’s a full smile makeover with dental veneers or replacing worn out or missing teeth with a dental bridge.

Dental Crowns and Bridges

Crowns and bridges are used to either restore a chipped or damaged tooth or replace a single or group of missing natural teeth, something that would be highly sought after if one of our apprentices had lost a tooth; pitching an idea with only half your teeth intact doesn’t really set a good first impression!

Crowns work by covering all of the outer (enamel) part of the damaged tooth, while bridges work by attaching the device to two teeth on either side of the missing tooth, acting as a bridge for the artificial tooth to be fitted.

Dental Veneers

Veneers are often known as the ultimate smile makeover and work by covering the damaged, disfigured or discoloured tooth or teeth with a wafer thin material. This material is remarkably similar aesthetically to natural teeth and can be shaded to whatever colour the patient wishes, making it a very versatile procedure that can help with a number of cosmetic dental issues.

With the new series of The Apprentice well under way, Lord Sugar’s potential recruits may be well rewarded for sprucing up a rather bland or downright ugly smile!

Ultimate Smile Makeover to Help you Land that Perfect Job

July 12th, 2011

As anyone who has had an important job interview will know, only two things are for certain going into it: you’re going to be nervous, and the first impression is the most important thing. What better way to get off to a good start than with a confident and dazzling smile?

There are many ways that cosmetic dentistry can help alter and change your smile to how you want it, but not all of these can be done at short notice and the best way to dramatically alter your smile to be a job-winning smile is to have treatment such as teeth whitening or dental veneers.

Tooth Whitening

The process of whitening teeth can come in a number of ways, all of which have good and bad points. Here is a brief description of each:

In-surgery

In-surgery whitening is done at the dental surgery, usually with a whitening laser. This will normally require a single visit of varying time, depending on how much of a change you want. The difference will be noticeable almost immediately, which is good if you need shiny new teeth quickly, but this does mean people that you know will realise you’ve had your teeth whitened.

At-Home

Home whitening still involves a trip to the dentist; at the surgery you will be given a home whitening kit which includes whitening trays and formula to apply the whitening material. This will usually take a number of applications at home and over multiple days, but the whitening is likely to last longer and bring about a more long-term result than in-surgery whitening.

Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are often described as the “ultimate smile makeover” and involve placing wafer thin laminates over your natural teeth. These laminates act to both shield your teeth and enhance the aesthetics. A good explanation of veneers is to compare them to false nails for your fingernails.

Because veneers cover your original teeth they can be made perfectly shaped, as well as being shaded to the colour you want!

Cosmetic dentistry can bring about confidence for any important date, whether it’s a wedding, holiday or interview. So if you’re located in Ealing

A lopsided smile and crooked teeth were restored using a combination of fixed metal and ceramic (tooth coloured braces).  In under 12 months, Charlene’s teeth are arrow straight teeth and she has a perfect smile.

Karen:

Two porcelain veneers were placed on the upper two front teeth. Within two appointments over two weeks, the patient was relieved to see something that had bothered her all her life could be changed so quickly.

Sharan

Crooked teeth on the upper jaw are much harder to disguise than crooked teeth on the lower jaw. This patient had visited the practice many times over several years with concerns about her upper teeth. Spurred on by her brother’s impending wedding she took the plunge and within one visit, this patient’s smile was transformed with temporary veneers. The porcelain veneers will be fitted in two weeks time. The patients reaction? She said the results are: “Unbelievable.”

As always, we took great pleasure in giving these patients a smile they can feel confident enough to show the world. If you’d like to know more about any of the treatments, or if you have any questions for the Sparkle staff, feel free to get in touch on our social media oulets:

What are the various roles that your father takes on in your life? At various stages while you were growing up he may have filled any or all of the following positions: taxi driver, bank, handyman, counsellor, bodyguard, teacher and even comedian.
