What are some of the top adult braces available from dentists In Kew?

December 22nd, 2011

Adult orthodontic treatments have become very popular in recent years thanks to innovative new treatments, shorter treatment time and a greater desire among adults to have a beautiful smile they feel confident in. Clients looking for treatment can now choose from an array of incredible treatments, so that they no longer have to face the daunting prospect of bulky train-tracks.

6 Month Smiles

One of the major drawbacks of orthodontic treatment was that they took a long time to produce results – but this is no longer the case and 6 Month Smile braces straighten the teeth and create beautiful smiles in just six months. The brace focuses on the teeth that are visible when you smile, moving the teeth quickly and painlessly. 6 Month Smiles braces are an ideal treatment for people with minor orthodontic issues, who want to improve the look of their teeth in a short period of time and they are perfect if you are preparing for a special occasion, such as a wedding.

Damon braces

Damon braces are an amazing alternative from Kew Dentists to conventional fixed braces. The braces are very fine and discreet and use state of the art, friction-free technology to move the teeth into position quickly. Like fixed braces they can generate a lot of movement, making them suitable for most clients.

Invisalign

Invisalign is an innovative treatment that provides the perfect solution for people who are put off having treatment because they are worried about their appearance. Unlike conventional orthodontic treatments, Invisalign uses aligners which are worn for two weeks at a time and are then replaced with the next aligner in the series until. The aligners are made from clear plastic, which means that they are invisible to others.

Inman aligner

The Inman aligner is a removable device and is composed of a coiled spring and metal bar. The spring sits at the back of the teeth and the bar runs along the front of the teeth; this creates opposing forces. The Inman aligner moves the teeth quickly and treatment is usually complete within just four months. The Inman aligner is ideal for people with minor orthodontic problems that affect the front teeth. However, it is not suitable for people with more complex orthodontic issues.

Lingual STb braces

Lingual braces work in a similar way to traditional braces but are fixed to the back of teeth, which means that they are invisible to other people. Lingual STb braces are very fine and discreet and use state of the art technology to move the teeth quickly and prevent friction. Lingual braces are ideal for people who want a more aesthetically agreeable smile without the worry of having to wear highly visible braces.

Can You Ever Be Too Old For Braces Treatment From Your Brentford Dentist?

October 25th, 2011

It is a common opinion amongst dental patients within the United Kingdom that braces are a treatment specifically designed for children and younger people. However, despite these misconceptions, braces are a superb method of treating various dental problems whatever your age.

Naturally, there is an upper limit to what age a person is able to get braces, however, this is far, far older than many people initially think and practically all of the adult population are able to benefit from what braces have to offer. It is therefore best to check with your dentist to see which options would work best for you.

Adult braces in Brentford are becoming increasingly more commonplace and are used to correct a number of dental problems, meaning that adult patients no longer have to carry on believing that they have ‘missed the boat’ by not having braces when they were younger.

Among the common dental complaints that adult braces can help fix are:

  • jaw alignment problems
  • crooked teeth
  • overcrowding of teeth
  • bite problems (e.g. overbites and underbites)

One of the most common misunderstandings made about braces for adults is the actual range available, with most people believing that train tracks are the only option. Often, people can be put off by the idea of getting braces fitted as an adult, as they believe they will have to endure ‘a mouthful of metal’. However, thanks to advances within modern dentistry there are plenty of options available for patients, which are much more subtle and discreet. This includes treatments such as ‘Six Months Smiles’ and other barely visible, tooth-coloured treatments. There are also ‘lingual’ braces which fit on the back of teeth, enabling them to remain virtually hidden.

Whatever your concern about braces as an adult the best policy is to contact your dentist, as more often than not they will be able to find a treatment that can be perfectly customised to your needs.

Age needn’t stop you from achieving your dream smile

Most people associate braces with teenagers but the number of adults undergoing orthodontic treatment is increasing every year. Braces are designed to create a straight, attractive smile and people of all ages are now considering orthodontic treatment.

Why is orthodontic treatment becoming popular among adults?

In the past, most adults would never have even entertained the idea of having braces, but now there is a huge range of treatments available and they have become much more sophisticated and discreet over the years. Gone are the ugly metal fixed braces, in their place a whole host of innovative new devices. Now, there are all sorts of different treatments; some can produce amazing results in just a matter of weeks, while others use invisible braces so that nobody can see that you’re wearing braces. Popular treatments include 6 Month Smiles, which can create amazing smiles in just 6 months, Invisalign, which involves a series of invisible plastic aligners and the Inman aligner, which can produce incredible results in just 16 weeks.

A discreet level of treatment

The increased range of treatments has undoubtedly encouraged more people to have treatment. Now, you can have treatment without anyone even being able to see your braces. However, the increased popularity of treatment is also a result of celebrity culture and the increased impetus on beauty and aesthetics. Nowadays, people are more concerned with their physical appearance than ever before and most people regard their smile as their most important feature. For some people, having braces can literally change their lives because they end up with a great looking smile which boosts their confidence and increases their self-esteem.

Many of us have also been influenced by celebrities. The newspapers, magazines and TV channels are constantly filled with images and pictures of stars flaunting a perfect smile and this has inspired people all over the world, from Washington to Chiswick to consider having treatment.

Revolutionary braces called “6 Month Smiles” or “Short Term Orthodontics (STO’s)” in Chiswick are making new ground.

Both systems use conventional orthodontics in that they involve the use of brackets and wires to move teeth. However, what both give is an effective, conservative and reasonable treatment option for adult patients with misaligned teeth.

For those wanting to have an aesthetic smile in a reasonable amount of time – around six months, these braces can give you the results you are looking for. In simple words, this new technique focuses on addressing a patients cosmetic concerns with their upper eight or lower eight front teeth only. It does not correct any misalignments of the back teeth.

Now you can gently, straighten and align your teeth in an average time of just six months. Take the first step towards improving your smile, your confidence and your life …

Braces Fact or Fiction

March 1st, 2010

Fiction: Braces are only for kids

Fact: There is no upper age limit for orthodontics providing your teeth, bones and gums are healthy. In fact braces have become trendy with celebrities such as Tom Cruise wearing braces as an adult.

Fiction: Braces are very noticeable and `everyone can see them’

Fact: They need not be. There are several styles of very discrete braces which are suitable for some circumstances and the conventional metal braces are much smaller and very much more attractive than they used to be.

Fiction: You always need to have teeth extracted before braces

Fact: No. This may only be necessary if the teeth are very overcrowded.

Fiction: Orthodontic treatment takes years

Fact: With new technological advancements, many dental corrections can be made in as little as 12 weeks, using new removable appliances like the Inman Aligner. On average treatment time varies from 6 – 24 months.

Fiction: Any dentist can fit braces

Fact: The majority of orthodontic treatment is carried out by those with formal postgraduate orthodontic training. An orthodontist on the General Dental Council Specialist List has undergone between 3-5 years of specialist training after qualifying as a dentist. Sparkle Dental Boutique’s orthodontist, Dr Shahla Rahman, is a Specialist.

Fiction: Braces make teeth weaker and more mobile

Fact: Quite the opposite. Successfully treated teeth are more effective at load bearing and are less likely to be ground down. Provided you take extra care of your teeth while the braces are on, your bite should be healthier after treatment.

Fiction: After braces are removed, teeth just move back to their old position again

Fact: Minor tooth movements are normal throughout life, but if you wear retainers as instructed at the end of treatment, your teeth should remain aligned.
