Orthodontics At Sparkle Dental Boutique Near Chiswick

May 9th, 2013

Orthodontics is the dental speciality concerned with preventing and correcting improper bites and facial irregularities. A crooked smile can range in extremity from a cosmetic problem to an all-round bite problem, causing immense discomfort. Regardless of how extreme it is, we at Sparkle Dental Boutique are here to help with all your orthodontic needs. It all begins, however, with an orthodontic assessment.

The initial assessment

This is the point where you voice your hopes and concerns. Following this, we will carry out a comprehensive examination of your teeth, face and jaw. Photographs, moulds and x-rays of your teeth are sometimes made during this process. Following all this, we will use our expertise to diagnose any underlying problems and come up with a full orthodontic plan for you. This initial visit should take about an hour; this is so we can thoroughly asses all issues relating to your treatment. In some cases, a second visit may be required so as to give us more time to examine your dental records. Following this assessment, you will also be able to discuss the various payment plans we offer.

The next appointment

Once all records have been examined and a plan has been devised, we will then prepare you for your braces. Prior to fitting the brace, you will have an appointment with our hygienist. This will ensure that your teeth are as clean as possible before the brace is fitted.

The fixed brace

A fixed brace consists of multiple brackets, either ceramic or metallic, which are joined together by a slender piece of wire which is commonly referred to as the ‘archwire’. In some instances the brackets can be fitted on the inside of one’s teeth, thus rendering them practically invisible. This type of fixed brace is called a lingual brace.

The advantages of a fixed brace

Numerous removable aligner treatments are available for cosmetic problems, but fixed braces are still the most reliable and versatile type of braces. They also eliminate the potential for the human error which can ruin or delay removable aligner treatment: If you can’t take them out, you can’t forget to put them back in!

Don’t Lose Your Straightened Smile! Ask About Retainer Treatment Near Chiswick

March 25th, 2013

The last thing you want to happen when you have gone through months of wearing braces is for your teeth to relapse and ruin your gorgeous new smile. This is why we advise all our patients to wear a retainer following orthodontic treatment.

Why do I need to wear a retainer?

If you’ve been wearing a brace for weeks, months of even years, you may not think that you need to wear a retainer, but the truth is that wearing a retainer is essential to preserving the look of your new smile. Braces move the teeth into position, but if you don’t wear a retainer after treatment, the teeth can start to move and slip out of their new position, which undoes all the hard work of the past months.

About retainers

Retainers are a type of orthodontic appliance designed to hold your teeth in their newly straightened position. There are fixed and removable retainers that are designed for the upper and lower sets of teeth. They form an essential part of orthodontic treatment, helping to preserve your newly straightened smile and reducing the risk of you needing repeat treatment.

Fixed retainers

Fixed retainers are usually applied to the back of your upper or lower teeth and are often comprised of a fine wire that sits at the back of your teeth. They are not highly visible and should not cause you any major discomfort. The benefit of fixed retainers is that they are guaranteed to work because they are fixed in place and the success of treatment is not dependent on you remembering to put them in.

Removable retainers

Removable retainers are ideal for people who want a little more flexibility, but it is important to wear your retainer for the recommended time. They can be made from plastic (known as an Essix retainer) or plastic and wire (known as a Hawley retainer).

Which retainer should I choose?

Your Sparkle Dental Boutique dentist will be happy to discuss the different treatment options with you. In some cases, a specific type of retainer may be recommended, while in others, the patient will be invited to choose from a range of options. We are happy to explain how the retainers work and to answer any questions you may have. We will also advise you on how to look after your retainer and keep it clean at the Sparkle Dental Boutique near Chiswick.

Inman Aligner Braces System For Patients Near Brentford

February 28th, 2013

As people grow older, their teeth may begin to move out of place. This usually happens to those that have had orthodontic treatment when they were younger. Most people think that in order to correct these minor alignment issues they might need braces, but they could use an Inman Aligner to get it fixed instead.

What is the Inman Aligner?

The Inman Aligner is an orthodontic appliance which was designed to straighten the lower and upper front teeth. It is a removable brace and is very much like a thin piece of wire that can straighten your teeth in a matter of months.

Inman Aligners work by applying gentle pressure to the teeth in order to move them to the ideal position. Once your teeth are in the correct position, it will act as a retainer and hold them in place.

Regular visits to the dentist are required during the treatment.

What are the advantages of the Inman Aligner?

The process of inserting an Inman Aligner is pain free and you can remove the device as you please. That means you can eat and drink whatever you want, and then just insert it back in. Another great advantage is that you do not need to change the aligners during the treatment. It is simple to use and you don’t have to wear it for years.

Aftercare

After the teeth have moved into the correct position, a second brace will be made which will have to be worn at night for about six or seven weeks. Other than that, as always, just try and maintain good oral hygiene.

If you have finer alignment issues with your front teeth, then the Inman Aligner is most likely for you. For more information on the Inman Aligner please contact the Team Sparkle near Brentford.

All About Interceptive Braces For Patients Near Hanwell

February 5th, 2013

There are many who have used braces to correct the structure of their teeth at some point in their life. But did you know that a lot of those problems could have been fixed more easily by wearing braces at an early age?

What are interceptive braces?

Interceptive braces are braces for children that haven’t yet developed their permanent teeth. The ideal age of starting a treatment with interceptive braces is around seven, before all the permanent teeth have had a chance to appear.

However, even if the dentist detects a problem, he may not take immediate measures to correct it. Depending on the rate the new teeth are developing, some of the problems may correct themselves in time.

Among the signs that your child may display which would indicate the need of an examination are:

  • Thumb-sucking
  • Finger-sucking
  • Teeth crowding
  • Large gaps in the teeth
  • Difficulty in biting or chewing
  • Abnormal swallowing
  • Mouth breathing
  • Late or early loss of baby teeth

The benefits of early treatment

Here is a small list of benefits for children who undergo interceptive orthodontic treatment:

  • Guidance for jaw growth
  • Good oral hygiene and habits
  • Improved appearance for your child
  • Guidance to the permanent teeth into a more favourable position

The price for interceptive braces depends on the materials required for the treatment and their quality.

Interceptive orthodontics is more of a preventive treatment than the regular orthodontics. So if you have a child that is around the age of seven, make an appointment with the team at Sparkle Dental Boutique near Hanwell ,so that you can avoid problems later on. Do that even if you think that your children’s teeth are perfectly straight. There are problems that only specialists are able to identify. And remember the old saying: “It is better to prevent than to cure”.

January 7th, 2013

Braces have been used for decades and fixed braces are still very popular, despite the introduction of a host of new and exciting orthodontic treatments. Traditional fixed braces are the most common type of brace. They can be used to treat patients with minor and complex orthodontic problems and they are widely available for patients of all ages. Functional braces, also known as orthopaedic braces, are a type of fixed brace that is designed for younger patients and can only be used when the mouth is still growing and developing.

Functional braces

Functional braces are recommended for children and young teenagers who have problems with the alignment of their lower and upper teeth. They are fixed to the top, bottom or both sets of teeth and they can help to correct common problems, such as protruding front teeth, misalignment of the upper and lower teeth and problems with the position of the jaw joint.

Functional braces, as the name suggests, have functional benefits, but they also improve the aesthetic of the smile, which gives children confidence and prevents them from feeling self-conscious when they smile.

Orthodontic problems are very common and often, it is best to treat them early, as they tend to get worse over time. Functional braces are designed to correct problems in young patients to prevent them from developing problems, which may be difficult to treat once they get older.

Behind The Teeth Braces For Discreet Teeth Straightening For Patients Near Hanwell

December 27th, 2012

Healthy teeth are just as important as a nice, straight smile .Orthodontic care can be needed for aches and pains in the jaw, worn teeth or issues with oral hygiene, as well as for aesthetic reasons.

Incognito Lingual braces are custom made, using the latest technology, and can be used for people of any age with certain dental problems and are matched to each patient’s needs and prescription. Teeth which protrude, overlap or are crooked and uneven can be effectively treated.

Incognito Lingual braces

Lingual braces go on the inner surface of the tooth, next to the tongue, and are therefore practically undetectable. Anyone else will be unable to see them as they are concealed behind the teeth and are shaped to the tooth’s surface for maximum comfort. This also makes them a simpler, more cost effective solution to dental problems if only the front teeth need to be straightened. Plus, the fact that they are not fitted to the front of the teeth means that there is no risk of decalcification.

Treatment stages

The braces are fitted in just three simple stages. Fewer appointments are required as fewer adjustments to the wires are needed. During the first step, a computer is used to scan a model of the teeth. The data from the scan is then used to create a plan for the treatment. Following this, the braces are custom-built, with the wires and brackets being crafted to fit each patient exactly. The third and final step involves the lingual braces being fitted to the back surface of the teeth.

It is common for people to feel a small amount of discomfort and interference with speech at first, but they can talk and eat as normal following a brief period of adjustment. For more information on Incognito lingual braces treatment please contact the team at Sparkle Dental Boutique near Hanwell.

Other benefits of the Damon system

The rapid improvement of a smile can also enhance a face. A proud, beautiful smile balances the features and can give a person a more youthful appearance. Before orthodontic treatment, misalignment, crowding of teeth, or gaps often draw attention away from other features. In a basic sense, the smile can be compromised and after treatment with the Damon system, the smile is no longer compromised and can fully blossom and express the emotions to a fuller extent. If eyes are supposed to be the windows of the soul, the smile must certainly be the door. It’s time to let that smile shine.
