Take years off your looks with some new services being offered at Sparkle Dental Boutique Brentford including skin lifters and line smoothers.

If you’ve started looking in the mirror and giving your skin a bit of a lift with your hands, then it may be time for a clever little freshen up.  At Sparkle, we now offer a whole new menu of “tweakments” to choose from, which can wipe away any lines.

Most people develop frown lines eventually, but those who are worriers or under stress can get them sooner. Anti wrinkle treatments using botox® is an increasingly popular treatment used to help iron out lines around the forehead and eyes to give a more youthful look to the face.

In addition, dermal fillers for men and women control and reverse the signs of ageing and stress. Fillers are used to remove lines caused by environmental factors, challenging careers, ageing, sun exposure, lifestyle pressures or simply the way we use facial muscles. The results are soft, smooth, more youthful skin.

The latest fillers can be used to subtly plump out cheeks and give lips a lift. Fine lines around the mouths lips can be tidied up and lips plumped to give a luscious pout. Our Facial Aesthetic Practitioner Dr Harry Singh, is highly experienced in this field. Harry is the first practitioner in Hertfordshire to receive the IHAS Register of Injectible Cosmetic Providers Quality Assurance Mark and is on the Treatments You Can Trust Register which means that you are in safe hands.

Harry says “People are always looking for ways to turn back the clock. Injectible cosmetics are a great way to rejuvenate the skin. I use conservative techniques, which give a more youthful, natural look. My passion is to deliver excellent results, safely.”

If facelifts send a shiver down your spine, then gentle “tweakments” using botox® and fillers may give you the results you are looking for.

The Cosmetic Dentistry Guide is an informational site where patients can learn about cosmetic dental procedures, take part in forums which discuss all aspects of dentistry, interact with other patients and get expert advice from cosmetic dentists.

Mastermind – Are You Ready for the Hot Seat

November 1st, 2010

Dr Sunita Verma, Sparkle Dental Boutique close to Acton has been asked to become an examiner for the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD) accreditation process. This follows on from Sunita being the first and only woman in England to achieve accreditation.

The BACD is committed to promoting the practice of quality cosmetic dentistry, and has recently introduced credentials to allow its members to demonstrate that they have reached an agreed level of ability.

Candidates seeking accreditation will have to brave the `black chair’ as they answer questions on their specialist subject, their own previously submitted dental cases to be awarded the coveted accreditation.

Sunita says “Sitting in the `black chair’ was a little daunting, as it had taken me a few years to submit and pass the 5 clinical cases that we had to anonymously submit. When these had all been passed there was a Viva examination where I answered questions from examiners about treatment methods chosen and materials that I had used.”

Sunita goes on to say “Examiners are usually drawn from BACD accredited members and so it is a great honour to have been asked to be an examiner. Although the programme Mastermind is well known for its challenging questions, intimidating setting and air of seriousness, I look forward to meeting potential candidates and acknowledging excellence in cosmetic dentistry.”

Go Green to Beat Cancer

October 18th, 2010

Scientists studying half a million retirees in the USA report that each extra serving of fruit and vegetables per 1,000 calories was linked to a 6% reduction in the risk of head and neck cancers, including mouth cancers.

Switching to a healthy eating lifestyle could make a huge difference to those not in the habit. A third of oral cancers are linked to poor diet. The study found that people going one beyond the recommended five a day, to six portions, were 30% less likely to develop the cancers than those just eating just one and a half servings of fruit and vegetables.

Dr Sunita Verma, Principal from Sparkle Dental Boutique in Hounslow says “We can take steps to prevent oral cancers, a disease which kills one person every five hours in the UK. Steps can be as simple as improving diet or quitting tobacco which is linked to 80% of oral cancers”

Sunita goes on to say “Also vital are self examinations for warning signs. Warning signs include ulcers which do not heal within three weeks, red, white and unusual patches in the mouth and unusual swellings or changes in the mouth and neck. Visiting the practice regularly for oral cancer screenings is also key as early detection of oral cancer improves survival chances to 9 in 10 cases”.

First Woman to become an Accredited Member of BACD!

September 23rd, 2010

bacd_accredited.JPG

Three years of hard work and dedication brought Dr Sunita Verma, founder of Sparkle Dental Boutique, Brentford to a pinnacle of professional achievement recently when her attainment of accreditation was announced by the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD).

Sunita’s accreditation is historic in that she is the first and only female dentist in England to have been honoured by the BACD and one of only 12 dentists in the UK, to have achieved the accreditation.

The BACD is committed to promoting the practice of quality cosmetic dentistry, and has recently introduced credentials to allow its members to demonstrate that they have reached an agreed level of ability. The process has been designed to allow dentists to demonstrate that they have the ability to diagnose, plan and execute cosmetic treatment of the highest standard, and that this can be done safely, ethically and competently.

Regarding the stringent accreditation requirements, Sunita observed, “The accreditation process is necessarily rigorous and demanding.  I was required to submit case studies of my dental work in each of five restoration and tooth replacement categories.  The demand for detailed case studies is designed to showcase a candidate’s ability to diagnose, plan treatment, and perform procedures to the highest standards of competency. Any dentist who attains this standard has perfected their knowledge, skills, and ability to perform cosmetic treatments to the highest level.”

The BACD Accreditation plaque joins Sunita’s impressive array of awards, including Best Practice London 2007/8 and 2008/9, 2009 Professional of the Year, and 2010 Best Patient Smile and many others – attesting to Sunita’s drive for excellence.

Cosmetic bonding or dental bonding as it is sometimes known is a technique that has been used in cosmetic dentistry for many years to transform your smile in just a single visit. The process involves the skilful/artistic use of the correct amount and colour of “dental composite” or dental resins, to change the shape or colour of  teeth.

Dr Sunita Verma, Sparkle Dental Boutique Hounslow says “Above, you can see an example of how I have used cosmetic bonding techniques to `disguise’ a badly discoloured tooth whilst at the same time blending in with the remaining teeth so that it looks as natural as possible.”

Whether your teeth are chipped, broken, misshappen, or discoloured, cosmetic bonding can give you a  perfect smile.

Revolutionary braces called “6 Month Smiles” or “Short Term Orthodontics (STO’s)” in Chiswick are making new ground.

Both systems use conventional orthodontics in that they involve the use of brackets and wires to move teeth. However, what both give is an effective, conservative and reasonable treatment option for adult patients with misaligned teeth.

For those wanting to have an aesthetic smile in a reasonable amount of time – around six months, these braces can give you the results you are looking for. In simple words, this new technique focuses on addressing a patients cosmetic concerns with their upper eight or lower eight front teeth only. It does not correct any misalignments of the back teeth.

Now you can gently, straighten and align your teeth in an average time of just six months. Take the first step towards improving your smile, your confidence and your life …

August 16th, 2010

The X Factor judge and pop star was strides ahead of the other WAGS with her beaming smile winning her more than 70 percent of the votes. The survey conducted for National Smile Month by the British Dental Health Foundation and power toothbrush maker Oral B asked more than 1000 people to vote for the WAG with the best smile and the one with the worst.

LA based Victoria Beckham’s pout proved to be the least popular of the WAGs followed by new mum Colleen Rooney.

Positive Effects of a New Smile

August 6th, 2010

Previous consumer studies have proved that a beautiful smile will make you more attractive. But according to research conducted by Beall Research & Training of Chicago, a new smile will make you appear more intelligent, interesting, successful and wealthy to others as well.

Dr. Anne Beall, a social psychologist and market research professional carried out the independent study on behalf of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). Pictures of eight individuals were shown to 528 Americans, a statistically valid cross section of the population. The respondents were asked to quickly judge the eight people as to how attractive, intelligent, happy, successful in their career, friendly, interesting, kind, wealthy, popular with the opposite sex and sensitive to other people they were.

Two sets of photos were created, with each set showing four individuals before undergoing cosmetic dentistry and four after treatment. Half the respondents viewed set A, the other half set B. The eight subjects viewed by respondents were evenly divided by gender. Two had mild improvements through cosmetic dentistry, two had moderate improvements and four had major improvements to their smiles, to give a wide range for respondents to view. None, however, had visibly rotten teeth, missing teeth or catastrophically bad dental health in the before shots.

Respondents were not told that they were looking at dentistry, but were asked to make snap judgments rating each person for the ten characteristics, on a scale of one to ten, with “one” being “not at all,” and “ten” being “extremely.” The results indicated that an attractive smile does have broad ranging benefits:

Characteristic Average “Before” rating Average “After” rating Increase

Attractive    4.5 5.9 1.3

Intelligent                                  5.9 6.5 .6

Happy                                      6.2 6.8 .4

Successful in their career 5.8 6.7 .9

Friendly                                   6.3 6.8 .5

Interesting                               5.4 6.1 .7

Kind                                       6.0 6.4 .4

Wealthy                                 4.9 5.9 1.0

Popular with topposite sex       5.0 6.2  1.2

Sensitive to other people          5.6 6.1 .5

While the change was most dramatic for the characteristics of “attractive”, “popular with the opposite sex”, “wealthy” and “successful in their career”, the change was statically significant in all areas.

Dr Sunita Verma, Principal from Sparkle Dental Boutique Kew says “Based on a lot of interaction with our patients, I am not surprised to see the results of this research. Our patients tell us that they have felt huge benefits from having cosmetic dentistry with us from feeling more confident and attractive to being able to strive for new possibilities whether it be in a new job or a new relationship. Investing in a beautiful smile is certianly a worthwhile investment.”

White teeth more important than health, according to Brits

July 27th, 2010

In a recent article reported In Preventative Dentistry, Britons are more interested in the colour of their teeth than real health issues such as cavities and receding gums.

A study by Mintel found that more than four in 10 Britons are concerned about the colour of their teeth, while only a quarter are interested in actual health.

Sunita Verma, Principal from Sparkle Dental Boutique Acton says `It’s a worry to read that people are more concerned about the colour of their teeth than real health issues such as cavities and gum disease and that as many people are associating a tan with good health, as they are associating white teeth with good oral hygiene, which is not the case.”

“When patients come to visit me, I carry out a thorough examination and make sure patients are aware of any dental health concerns. You only have one set of teeth as adults and its is so important to look after them.”
